The Boss and the Gem (ONE OTHER PERSON JOIN ONLY)

The footfalls of the boy echoed through the night. Aleks ran, holding a gem of sorts. He was panting, but had to continue on. The world was dark with night. He couldn't see that far ahead. Suddenly, he tripped, and a roar sounded. Out of the shadows jumped what looked like a massive hunter, with crooked pale teeth and glowing evil eyes. It was at least ten feet tall, and pounced on Aleks. the wind was knocked out of him as he heard several cracks. The thing opened it's mouth to bite. The boy desperately tried to shield himself, but to no avail. The shadow lunged it's jaws onto his neck, biting out most of it. The life left his eyes, and a pool of blood formed, as the creature started to devour him...

Aleks awoke in a cold sweat. Whst a horrible dream! Trembling in fear and still hearing the roar of the shadow, he sat at the side of his bed. What was that thing? What was that gem?
It seemed too real. If he had felt the pain of death or hadn't awoke, it would have felt like real life.
Getting up from his bed, he looked out the window. Sunrise. Possibly only six. Maneuvering around the sleeping bodies, he went to the front of the supermarket, glad to be alive.

Being a light sleeper, Minnie woke to hear soft footsteps leaving the aisle the sleeping bags were gathered on. She blinked her eyes slowly, catching a glimpse of a familiar face disappearing around the corner. Instantly curious, the girl slipped out of her own bag as quietly as possible, and stood, preparing to follow Aleks. She tiptoed after the boy, freezing when she saw he had only stopped at the front of the supermarket. Minnie remained silent, about to turn back to her bed.

Fatigue showed in the boy's eyes. He didn't want to go back to sleep, though.
Maybe the cold air would wake him up. Aleks quietly walked over to the doors, and opened them, hit by a blast of autumn breeze.

When Aleks stepped outside by himself, Minnie stood, teetering between going back to sleep and following him. He was outside by himself, and would be completely defenseless in an attack. But it was so early, and her bed was still warm. The girl stood for another minute before finally deciding to follow Aleks outside. Once she was almost directly behind him, Minnie said quietly, "It's a beautiful morning."

Aleks felt chills run down his spine. After a moment of silence, he murmured: "Don't scare me like that..."
He did not turn, though, keeping his eyes fixed forward.

Minnie moved over beside Aleks.
"I apologize," she replied, though she smiled slightly at having surprised the boy. After a moment, she asked, "What are you doing out here?"

He looked up at the sky, hands in his pockets to keep them warm. "Couldn't sleep. Thought I'd freeze to death." he answered wryly.
